New servers are running fine, and hopefully we can deliver timely releases (knock on wood, etc). We’re able to push 100MB/s on them, so you can download even faster and we’ll get an even bigger epenis. Amazing.

Well, anyway, I’d like to invite you to join us on #horriblesubs@irc.rizon.net tomorrow to anticipate the next episode of SAO. In addition to using the web widget on the right hand side, here’s a guide to show how you can connect to IRC locally.

Join IRC to talk to other sheeplings like yourselves, and also to enjoy faster download speeds through XDCC (compared to torrents!).

A few things to be cleared up:

  • There is no HxH this week. Stop fucking asking about it.
  • We did not forget about K. We just need to fix up our Hulu script in order to bypass some new security measures they’ve implemented for Hulu plus. This actually takes time, effort, and some thought. We’re not here to fucking serve you.

Happy New Year + Updates

Happy New Years! I haven’t had constant access to the internet since I’m currently by the Sahara Desert enjoying the African sun. Anyway, there’s a few things I’d like to say.

2012 was a pretty good year for HorribleSubs. Many changes for the better good have happened:

  • The website has been moved to a stable domain and is doing well.
  • Our infrastructure has greatly improved thanks to our hardworking friends and slaves — the HorribleSubs AI, albeit not perfect, is very stable compared to what we had before.
  • We’ve expanded to Social Media channels such as IRC and Twitter.
  • We’ve hit 100million downloads just from torrents alone. We are currently at 165 million now — 1 billion in 2013 perhaps?!
  • I finally lost my anal virginity.

2013 will be an even better year because we will build on and expand from what we have achieved in 2012. Many further improvements await us and will be implemented. Of course, this wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for you faggots out there supporting us! So, thank you for supporting us!

Back to the main topic: the new season is beginning and you will soon see the schedule update with new shows. In fact, a few new shows have been released already. Here’s a few shows to be on the lookout for:

  1. Maoyuu Maou Yuusha
  2. OreShura
  3. Whatever CR licenses that isn’t retarded shit like this

Hello sheeplings, spring season has begun and I have some updates for you. I’d like to apologize for the unresponsiveness, but please consider that I’m the only person actively doing work for HorribleSubs — it’s a lot to juggle.

Donations
Seems like bitcoins didn’t really work out. We are still looking to upgrade our storage capabilities on our server, and perhaps create a solution to store our releases. Right now, we have around 4300 files of releases, and we’re running out of space pretty soon. So if you can, please donate to us! The link is on the side. Thanks!

Schedule
As you can see, the schedule page has (finally) been updated.

Comments
We have switched from Disqus to Livefyre simply because Livefyre is less retarded. Disqus doesn’t let you change the default ordering of comments, always showing the best first. Why the fuck would you do that? Anyway, let’s give Livefyre a try. This way, I actually get to read your NEWEST shitpostings. Entertain me.

Direct Downloads
Since I found someone to do the DDLs, we’re adding DDL support again for those who prefer to not torrent. We’re going to be using Ultramegabit.com and Filefactory.com. As you can see, the releases link have been updated to accommodate this.

Clear your cache and/or press ctrl+f5 if links look messed up.

Distribution Help
If you have a spare dedicated server with a 100/100mbit link and 500GB+ disk space and you would like to host an IRC bot/seedbox for us,  e-mail me at guildeldh[at]free[dot]fr or message the operators on our IRC channel.

Crunchyroll has changed some stuff on their end so some of the shows might not be ripping properly.

Initial Summer Update

Summer season is about to start. Here’s some info regarding Summer:

1) Pay close attention to the schedule the next few days as I will be updating it.
2) Dog & Scissors is renamed to Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou for better searchability.
3) The subtitle styling engine has been rewritten. This means there should be less “ugly” and “small” subtitles like in Chihayafuru and Dog & Scissors episode 1.

Anime to look out for:

  • Free! (new banner) – Whether or not you are homosexual like I am, I guarantee you will enjoy this high potential masterpiece by KyoAni.
  • Fantasista Doll – Original idea by the mastermind behind Code Geass, Infinite Ryvius, s-CRY-ed, and Planetes
  • Gin no Saji - Deep(?) slice of life written by the author of Fullmetal Alchemist
  • Gen’ei wo Kakeru Taiyou – Similar to Madoka?

Summer Updates (Part 2)

Continuing off the last update:

  • The schedule page is updated for good. From now on, it’ll automatically update and sync itself with the schedule the ripper engine uses.
  • A “Today’s Releases” widget is added to the side – it’ll display information about what will be released each day.

Anime to look out for:

It seems like this season is pretty horrendous in terms of watchable things, with the majority of shows being “moe” crap.

  1. Free! - Fucking masterpiece.
  2. Silver Spoon (Gin no Saji) – “Deep” slice of life by the author of Fullmetal Alchemist, Arakawa-sensei.
  3. Gatchaman Crowds - Someone told me this will be good. And it looks fucking amazing.
  4. Servant x Service - Take the concept of Working! and apply it to working in the public sector.
  5. Uchouten Kazoku - Hipster anime, but it should be good.

Donations

We might be running another donation drive, depending on how our finances go.

Meanwhile, if you have money to throw at someone, throw it at Trigger’s LWA2 Kickstarter. Show them us western fans do want to give our money to the original creators.

If you haven’t watched Little Witch Academia, please do so — you can watch it in HD on YouTube, uploaded by the creators themselves. In an ideal world, all anime should be like LWA: interesting premise, fantastic animation, likeable characters, and without fanservice.

Donation Drive

As you may or may not know, we are ripping around 40 shows this season, that’s about 120 files a week. Even though our main server is powerful, it cannot provide enough juice to power the main XDCC bot (CR) as well as seed all the releases. Therefore, we’d like to expand our distribution capabilities (by 4x) so that we can host more XDCC bots to take some load off the main server as well as increase our seeding capabilities. This way, there will hopefully be less frustration when you download our releases.

To achieve that, we need your help. We’ll be leaving the donation up for a day or two. We predict that’ll probably be long enough to give us the budget to do this test run.

Improved Distribution

Thanks to your donations, we were able to afford 4 new servers to do distribution. Let me brief you through some changes.

Torrents
We now have 2 more gigabit servers to do initial seeding. This brings our total capacity to seed to 300 megabytes/second. Hopefully you will be able avoid torrent congestion and download your animes faster.

XDCC
Thanks to our new servers, we now have 7 XDCC bots.

CR
CR has been split into CR-ARCHIVE|SD, CR-ARCHIVE|720p, and CR-ARCHIVE|1080p. These bots will hold all releases, but they will be slower than the new bots because they are intended for downloading older files.

NEW bots 
These bots only serve new files from the current season. You should use them to download new releases. Also, these bots are located in different parts of the world, so pick a bot that is located closest to you.

  • CR-CA|NEW – located in Montreal, Canada (East Coast)
  • CR-EU|NEW – located in France
  • CR-US|NEW – located in California (West Coast)
  • CR-FR|NEW – located in France (This will be up later today) (ONLINE)

XDCC Packlists
The files on the bots can now be searched from our XDCC packlist parser. It should be pretty intuitive to use, and it’s also in a pretty pink.

Fall ’13 Season!

As you might or might not know, we’re currently ripping 48 animes this season. This is a record amount! I also have some recommendations for this season. However, let’s start with some logistics first.

Donations

I’m going to open up donations again for financing our servers. We’ve increased our distribution capacity by quite a bit, so spending also went up accordingly. Thanks in advance!

Even more bots

  • CR-NL|NEW is now online, serving you files from Netherlands.
  • CR-EU|NEW is now serving you files from Northern France. If you’re from the UK, it should be able to give you good speeds.

Recommendations

  1. Kill la Kill — I’m sure you’ve all been watching this anime that will save all animes. I don’t need to say more.
  2. Log Horizon — If you enjoyed SAO or the MMO genre anime, you should definitely watch this. The author has put a lot of thought in designing the world setting. It’s less fluff compared to SAO and more focused on the MMO side of things.
  3. Golden Time — If you enjoyed Toradora!, I think you will enjoy this. Very simple and plain romance anime in a college setting.
  4. Samurai Flamenco – You can’t go wrong with Noitamina shows.
  5. Galilei Donna – Same reason as Samurai Flamenco.
  6. Coppelion – I’ve heard this is pretty unique in terms of composition and storyline. Worth giving a shot.
  7. Kyoukai no Kanata – KyoAni will find a way. I believe.
  8. Gundam Build Fighters – Even if this is aimed for kids, it’s pretty well done in terms of plot and animation.

I’m sure there’s other stuff you might enjoy, but I’m always right. :>

Happy (late) new years! Hope you all had fun getting laid wasted some sleep.

With a new year comes a new season of anime. The simulcast schedules seem to have been finalized. Most series will be simulcasted so hopefully HS will be your one stop shop for your Japanese cartoons. In fact, there will be 13 different anime series released on Thursday!

With a new season of anime also comes the time of money begging for running the servers. If you’re looking forward to be on Santa’s list of good kids next year, you might want to donate some $$$. If not, sit back and enjoy your Japanese cartoons. Donations will be closed once we’ve collected enough to run operations until the next time we have to beg for money.

’14 Winter Season

As it is a tradition, here is a list of new interesting shows to look out for this season:

  1. Nisekoi – romantic comedy animated by SHAFT.
  2. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren - Season 2 of Chuunibyou; KyoAni will always find a way.
  3. The Pilot’s Love Song aka Toaru Hikūshi e no Koiuta – Heard good things about this
  4. Space Dandy - by the Cowbow Bebop people. The new anime this season that will supposedly “save” anime.
  5. Noragami – really pretty show with an interesting story by BONES.
  6. Wizard Barristers - They call this sakuga.

*This list is not exhaustive.

While we’re at it, here are some shows you should turn 360 degrees and walk away from:

  1. SoniAni – This show promotes obesity and mocks mental illnesses. Only watch if you want something to jerk off to (you might wanna check your standards).
  2. ImoCho – Another Shitty Sister Adaptation. Incest is bad. You wouldn’t procreate with your mother.
